Lautus Recycled Earrings

WHAT

Sustainable & Eco-Conscious statement jewellery, made with 100% recycled plastic inspired by the flora of Madeira Island.

HOW

We seek to design a jewellery collection that uses recycled plastic to create unique & lightweight jewellery with a strong connection to nature.

We use the Precious Plastic Machines to recycle and transform the plastic waste we collect and we use the digital fabrication machines at VIVA Lab to create the different pieces.

The PP & HDPE plastic used in our jewellery is processed in an environmentally friendly manner, no virgin material is added and we create zero by-products. Any waste, off-cuts, or defected parts are recycled again and given new life.

"The linear 'Take - Make - Dispose' system, which depletes natural resources and generates waste, is deeply flawed and can be productively replaced by a restorative model in which waste does not exist as such but is only food for the next cycle" - Ellen MacArthur

WHY

Our number one focus is to work for a cleaner planet in order to protect the livelihood of future generations. Maker Island products combine ethical sourcing, sustainability and durability for less environmental impact.

This small jewellery line was born out of a desire to use plastic by-products to create items that are not only beautiful, but that also gives a spotlight on sustainability and challenge our perceptions on waste & where we place value by reducing our environmental impact. Our main philosophy revolves around 'reduce', 'reuse', 'recycle', and this philosophy extends to all parts of our business, from sourcing to manufacturing & packaging.

→ We partnered up with VIVA Lab and we are selling the jewellery in their online shop Check it Out!
